A) Core application items (everyone)
- Online application + receipt generated on France-Visas (complete the form online, then print the application and the France-Visas receipt). You can apply up to 6 months before departure.
- Appointment booking & submission via TLScontact (Bangkok/Chiang Mai), as directed by France-Visas’ Thailand page.
- Passport (original + copy): issued within the last 10 years, valid at least 3 months after your planned exit from Schengen, with 2 blank pages.
- Photos: 35×45 mm, white background, recent.
- Travel medical insurance: covers the entire Schengen Area and full trip duration, with minimum €30,000 coverage (medical, hospitalization, repatriation). Bring the certificate.
- Flights: round-trip booking/itinerary (tickets usually not required to be paid at filing).
- Accommodation: hotel bookings covering every night of stay, in the applicant’s name (or name + proof of relationship if sharing). At the border, hotel booking is also listed as acceptable proof of accommodation.
- Proof of funds (means of subsistence): show bank balance/flows sufficient for your stay. France’s published guideline amounts are:
- €65/day with hotel booking; €120/day if no hotel booking; mixed trips are prorated.
- Travel plan / itinerary: simple day-by-day outline (cities/dates/activities), matching flights & hotels.
- Cover letter (covering letter): written in English, with a detailed description of:
- Purpose of your trip (tourism, sightseeing, cultural exploration).
- Previous travel history (Schengen or other countries).
- Commitments in Thailand (job, business, family, studies) showing intention to return.
- Financial ability to support the trip.
- Why you should be granted a visa (good travel record, strong ties to Thailand, genuine travel purpose).
- Visa fee: €90 for short-stay (service fees at TLS may apply; some categories are reduced/waived).
Tip: Carry copies of items 5–10 when you travel—Border Police may ask for them on arrival.
B) Proof of ties & status in Thailand (choose the one that fits)
Provide one main status document below plus your bank statements (usually last 3 months; 6 months is even better for clarity).
- Employed
- Original employment letter on company letterhead (position, start date, monthly salary, approved leave dates, HR contact).
- Recent payslips (e.g., last 3 months).
- Business owner / self-employed
- Business registration (DBD/partnership/company docs) + latest tax filings and/or income proof.
- Student
- Letter of enrollment / proof of school attendance and approved leave during travel dates.
- Retired
- Pension letter or proof of retirement income.
Bank statements: show available funds that meet the €65/day guideline with hotel bookings. Include savings/fixed deposits if relevant.
Additional proof of financial and social ties in Thailand
Besides employment, business, or student status, applicants are strongly encouraged to show evidence of assets and long-term commitments in Thailand, which demonstrate stability and intention to return. Examples include:
- Land or property ownership – Chanote (title deed) or other official land documents. If in Thai, provide a certified English translation.
- Vehicles – car or motorcycle registration certificates showing the applicant as the legal owner.
- Investments – proof of stock holdings, bonds, mutual funds, or other investment accounts.
- Savings and fixed deposits – bank books or certificates of deposit beyond the standard current account statements.
- Other long-term assets or contracts – e.g., rental income agreements, business lease contracts, or long-term insurance policies.
📌 Important: If original ownership documents are issued in Thai, attach a certified English translation. Providing these additional documents strengthens the case that the applicant has significant ties to Thailand and reasons to return after the trip.
C) If applicable (only when these cases apply)
- Non-Thai nationals applying in Thailand: proof of legal residence in Thailand covering the full visa processing period.
- Previous travel history: copies of previous Schengen/US/UK/Canada visas and corresponding entry/exit stamps (helps demonstrate compliance).
- Minors (under 18): birth certificate; copies of both parents’ IDs; consent letter(s) per TLS instructions if one/both parents are not traveling.
D) Practical process (Thailand)
- Check requirements & start on France-Visas (select purpose: Tourism/Private visit). Print the application + France-Visas receipt.
- Create TLScontact account (Bangkok/Chiang Mai), book an appointment, and follow their submission guidance.
- Submit biometrics + documents at TLS. Track your application via France-Visas/TLS.
E) Quick quality checklist before you file
- Dates and names match across flights, hotels, form, cover letter, and letters.
- Insurance covers all Schengen days and is printed (certificate in English is fine).
- Funds comfortably exceed €65/day with hotels; bring bank statements and (if employed) payslips.
- Cover letter is clear, structured, and convincing.
- Apply early (up to 6 months ahead) to avoid peak-season delays.
