A) Core Application Requirements (Mandatory for Everyone)
- DS-160 Form (Online Application)
- Complete at ceac.state.gov.
- Upload digital photo (U.S. standards).
- Print DS-160 confirmation page with barcode.
- Visa Appointment Registration (USTravelDocs)
- Create profile at ustraveldocs.com/th.
- Pay the MRV visa fee (~USD 185, in Thai Baht).
- Book appointment at U.S. Embassy Bangkok or U.S. Consulate Chiang Mai.
- Print the appointment confirmation page.
- Passport (Original + Copies)
- Valid for at least 6 months beyond intended stay in the U.S.
- At least two blank pages.
- Include old passports showing previous visas/travel history.
- Photograph
- 2×2 inches (51×51 mm), color, white background.
- Must meet strict U.S. photo guidelines.
- Upload online + bring 1 printed photo.
- Visa Fee Receipt
- Proof of MRV payment (bank/online receipt).
B) Supporting Documents (Relationship + Personal Ties)
1. Relationship with U.S. Partner
- Letter of Invitation from boyfriend/husband in the U.S. (explains purpose of visit, relationship, dates of stay, where you will stay).
- Copy of partner’s U.S. passport or Green Card.
- Proof of relationship history:
- Photos together (in Thailand or abroad).
- Chat logs / call records (optional).
- Travel together (flight tickets, hotel bookings, old itineraries).
- If married: Thai marriage certificate (+ certified English translation if not bilingual).
- If fiancé/boyfriend: Any evidence showing ongoing relationship.
2. Proof of Purpose of Travel
- Planned itinerary: flight bookings, possible sightseeing, places you will visit together.
- Cover letter (in English):
- State reason for travel (to visit boyfriend/husband, tourism).
- Length of stay.
- How expenses will be covered.
- Strong ties to Thailand (job, family, business, studies).
- Confirm intention to return.
3. Financial Proof (Yours and/or Partner’s)
- Bank statements (3–6 months) from applicant (Thai account).
- Savings/fixed deposits.
- Payslips/employment income (if employed).
- If U.S. partner will cover expenses:
- Letter of financial support.
- Partner’s bank statements or pay slips.
- Proof of residence (lease, utility bills).
4. Proof of Ties to Thailand (to show you will return)
- Employment:
- Letter from Thai employer (position, salary, leave approval).
- Payslips (3–6 months).
- Business ownership:
- Company registration (DBD), tax filings.
- Student status:
- Certificate of enrollment, letter of leave approval.
- Family ties:
- Birth certificates of children.
- Family house registration (Tabien Baan).
- Assets:
- Land/property deeds (with English translation).
- Vehicle registration.
- Investments (stocks, funds, bonds).
5. Previous Travel History
- Copies of visas (U.S., Schengen, UK, Japan, Korea).
- Stamps showing return compliance.
C) Special Cases
- If married in Thailand: Bring marriage certificate (translated + certified).
- If previously overstayed in the U.S.: Bring explanation and proof of compliance afterwards.
- If living with boyfriend/husband in Thailand before travel: Show joint lease, shared bills, or proof of cohabitation.
D) Embassy Interview Preparation
- Be ready to explain your relationship and travel purpose clearly.
- Common questions:
- How did you meet your boyfriend/husband?
- How long have you been in a relationship?
- Why are you visiting now?
- Who will pay for the trip?
- What do you do in Thailand?
- When will you return to Thailand?
- Keep answers short, truthful, and consistent with documents.
